Flights guide
There is no single magic day to book, but a few reliable patterns help you pay less. Here is how timing affects airfares and how to use it.
For short and medium-haul trips, booking a few weeks ahead usually lands a good fare. For long-haul or peak-season travel, booking earlier gives you more choice before the cheaper seats sell out.
Last-minute fares are typically the most expensive, so avoid leaving popular routes and dates until the final days.
Mid-week departures tend to be cheaper than Friday–Sunday. Flying on or around major holidays costs more, so travelling just before or after a peak period can save money.
Shoulder seasons — the weeks either side of a destination’s peak — often combine good weather with lower fares and quieter airports.
Booking ahead is almost always cheaper for popular routes. Last-minute fares are usually higher because the cheaper seats have already sold.
Mid-week (Tuesday to Thursday) is generally cheaper than weekends. Compare the days around your dates to confirm for your route.
