Short answer<\/p>\n

Mostly no. Your UAE residence visa is a permit to live in the Emirates – it is not a travel document, and almost every country decides your entry rules by the passport you hold<\/strong>, not by where you live. There is a small number of genuine exceptions, and Georgia is the clearest confirmed one. Anything else you read about “visa-free countries for UAE residents” needs checking against the embassy, because a lot of it is wrong.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This is the single most misunderstood thing in UAE travel planning. Search for “visa-free countries for UAE residents” and you will find long, confident listicles naming twenty or thirty destinations. Most of those lists are quietly describing the rules for Emirati passport holders<\/em> and then labelling the article “UAE residents”, which is a different group of roughly nine million people holding Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Egyptian, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan and dozens of other passports.<\/p>\n

The distinction matters because getting it wrong costs you a denied boarding at the gate. So here is the version that separates the two properly, with the rule for each case stated as we could verify it on 24 August 2026.<\/p>\n

The rule that governs almost everything<\/h2>\n

Immigration policy is set between states, and the unit of that relationship is nationality. When the European Union agreed a visa waiver with the UAE, it waived visas for UAE nationals<\/strong>. When China and the UAE signed a mutual exemption, it covered UAE ordinary passport holders<\/strong>. Your residence visa is not part of that agreement and does not attach you to it.<\/p>\n

So the default assumption for any destination should be: look up my passport’s nationality, not my residency<\/em>. Then check separately whether that destination happens to run a residency-based scheme on top.<\/p>\n

Where the myth is actively wrong<\/h2>\n

Where it is genuinely true: Georgia<\/h2>\n

Georgia runs a real, documented, residency-based scheme, and it is the one that is worth knowing about.<\/p>\n
